In Exploring Jewish Holidays Through Food, students will discover the deep connections between Jewish rituals, history, and culinary traditions. Judaism is indeed a gastronomic religion!

The 64 video course will reveal how food reflects the values, stories, and spiritual practices of each occasion. You’ll learn not only about iconic dishes but also about the symbolic roles these foods play in shaping Jewish identity and community.

  • The cultural and historical significance of Jewish holidays, including Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover, Hanukkah, and Israeli national holidays such as Yom Ha’atzmaut.
  • The symbolic meanings behind traditional holiday foods and how they connect to religious practices
  • How to prepare specific dishes associated with each holiday while learning their religious and cultural context
  • The evolution of Jewish cuisine in various global communities, from Ashkenazi to Sephardic traditions

As part of our commitment to pluralism, we have drawn the videos from this series from a few of our favorite YouTube creators, all across the religious and Jewish cultural spectrum.

Not all videos in the course are listed on the front page, so make sure to scroll where it says “PAGE” to access all videos. There are four pages worth.

This course is offered free for all students. B’tayavon – bon appetit!
